Tips On Writing That Book This Year!

If you’ve always wanted to write that book but just needed that extra little push to get you started? Well, today is your lucky day. I’ve provided you with a list of 10. That’s right ten tips that you can use to strategize your plan to get that book that’s inside of you. Out to the world. Remember, everyone has a story to tell. The world needs yours. Don’t forget that. Your story may just touch someone and change their life.

Tip #1

The art of writing a book is good storytelling. As an author it is our job to paint a picture that the reader can see in their mind. Imagine the words becoming a little film that they can create on their own. So, it’s important to show not tell the reader about what’s going on in the story. Use adverbs and adjectives. Use descriptive words to paint your scenes. Don’t tell me the air smells bad. Show me. “The remnants of musk filled the air making it difficult to breath without gagging.”

Tip #2

Remember, we don’t want to wait until the book is completed to promote it. You want to have people anticipating your release. What you want to do is create a website. Your website works as a good tool to share information and news about your books and interest. Offer an incentive to collect emails from readers. Give them a reason to connect with you and keep coming back. You want readers. You must take care of them.

Tip #3

Keep learning! Can’t stress this enough. Keep learning. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. For doing your research on topics your not knowledgeable about. No one is a master. Learn from people who are doing what you want to do and are successful at it. It’s okay to learn different things. It will benefit you in the long run.

Tip #4

When it comes to finding and hiring a quality book designer. This is something else that you can’t afford to cheap out on. A graphic designer is as important as your editor. A good book cover makes the difference between a reader picking up your cover and reading the synopsis . Or putting it down. Your cover is the first time a reader gets intrigued by your book. Make it count.

Tip #5

Think of writing books as a business. You want to get paid for talents. So, why not create your own publishing company. If you’re going to self-publish your own books. It’s important to brand yourself. Set yourself apart from other authors. When readers see your brand they automatically know it’s you. You want to stand out in a crowded room.

Tip #6

When it comes to professional branding you want to take it a step further. Create a separate social media account for your books. Typically, it’s important to keep your personal life off of your professional profile. Show your readers your life as an author. Showcase all the interesting things you’ve been doing.

Tip #7

Make sure you are researching various book clubs and author networking sites to promote your books on. Book clubs are usually always looking for books to read and if you connect with them. They’re enthusiastic about reading and reviewing your books. Also, if you find networking sites you can land interviews where you can speak about your books.

Tip #8

Decide which method of publishing is best for you. Self-publishing puts you, the writer in control of the project but you are also usually the one fronting the financial bill. Whereas, if you go with a traditional publishing houses. You are writing query letters and contacting publishers. You may be under tighter constrains within your contract. So, again it is important to do your research and decide which path is right for you.

Tip #9/10

SPREAD THE WORD. SPREAD THE WORD. SPREAD THE WORD. I can’t stress this enough! Don’t wait until the book is complete to start marketing your book. Start while you’re still writing. Get people interested in finding out more about you and your book. Think outside the box. Go to unconventional places such as barbershops, hair salons, gas stations, store workers. You’ll be surprised who may be interested in reading your story. You can find a reader anywhere. So don’t be shy! SPREAD THE WORD. SPREAD THE WORD. SPREAD THE WORD. SPREAD THE WORD. SPREAD THE WORD.

Meet Author Janae Marie | ShoutOut Atlanta Interview

We had the good fortune of connecting with Janae Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janae, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I found pursuing a writing career to be extremely rewarding. I love to create characters and fictitious worlds. It allows me to escape reality for a bit. I love being able to express myself creatively. I am better with the written words than expressing myself through direct conversation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a self-published author of 5 books. I write urban fiction. I believe what sets me apart is how I am not afraid to touch on topics that aren’t usually talked about in the world less known the literary world. I started writing stories at the age of 16. I would write all the time. As I got to college at Wayne State University in Michigan. I’d write in between classes or work. On the bus, on my breaks from work. Writing is my life. I decided to step out on faith and publish my 1st book Flirting with Temptations at the age of 25. Soon after 3 more followed before the age of 30 and now in 2020 I published 2 in one year. Which has now brought me to a total of 5 books. It’s never an easy journey as a self published author. You are plagued with self-doubt and overly critical of your own work. The hardest thing to get over is your own voice holding you back. Then it’s ok. I wrote the book. How am I going to sell it now. Who’s going to buy it? How am I going to get support? You ask yourself this. But when you are new. And even still you have to get out your comfort zone and hit the streets. You gotta make friends with the barber shop, hair salon, gas station and dollar store workers. Those are the people who will take a chance on your work. The lessons I learned is that you have to get out of your own way. Give yourself permission to be great. Not to dim your light for anyone. Stop worrying about what others may think or do about you. Keep going. Most importantly be happy and have fun. I want people to know that I bring drama from the streets with books by Janae Marie.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely travel all over Los Angeles. Or maybe Las Vegas! I don’t know. It would be somewhere fun! I really like museums and art galleries. I love learning new things. Have to stop at Hard Rock Cafe. Maybe go to Hollywood and look at the stars on the Walk of Fame lol!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family is very supportive. I would like to shout them out. They all play a pivotal role in my success. My daughter keeps me going everyday. While my mom is always pushing me to aim high. *

Staying Sane In an Insane World!

Staying sane in an Insane World

During these unprecedented times it is vital that we stay productive. Now that we are experiencing quarantine, a lot of us are sheltering-in-place. But this doesn’t mean that we should sit on the couch and be idle. We can use this time to stay vigilant and creative. Here are a few things I believe you can do to stay sane in this insane world!

Staying Sane in an Insane World

In all of today’s chaotic noise it is very hard to stay grounded in what is real. It’s very important to find what it is that you love to do. Although, we’re experiencing quarantine right now. That doesn’t mean we have to lay around the house eating snacks and watching the news all day! Heck no!  You can use this time to find talents that you are good at and enjoy.  I want to share with you some things you can do at home in your own leisure time.

  • Read a Book! Yes, plenty of time to pull out those books you’ve had sitting in the attic or even your closet. Why not use this as a time to get lost in another world by reading a fiction novel by one of your favorite authors.  Getting yourself attached to characters is a great way to escape the mayhem that is going on within the world even if it’s only for a couple hours. So, put on a pot of coffee and find your cozy spot on the couch and get to reading!
  • Write a Book! I mean seriously why not! You’ve got nothing but time. Idle time is the devil’s playground am I right? So, don’t waste it. If this has always been a goal of yours why not cross it off your bucket list. You will not regret it. Everyone has a story to tell about their lives and what they have experienced. If you think no one will care think again. Writing has always been a very therapeutic way to express your feelings and opinions. If you are an introvert this is the next best thing. Your pen and your notebook may very well be your best friend. You never know, that story that you’ve been hiding deep down inside may be the next NY Times bestselling novel. But you will never know if you don’t get started. Take a chance.
  • Become a Vlogger! Now I know you love being on social media. Always posting pics and stories on the Gram. Going live on Facebook comes second nature to you. So, why not dedicate an entire channel to what it is you enjoy. Whether it is beauty, fashion, shopping, or even cooking. Let the world know all about you! Let your personality shine through your creative talents. You have all the time in the world if you are not working right now so why not turn YouTube into your full-time business. All you need is a camera, microphone, and some video editing software that you can download right to your smart phone, and your vibrant, lovable self!
  • Last but certainly not least. Start a business. It can even be online. Just get a website going at either, WordPress, Wix, Go Daddy or any other cost-efficient website builder. Some sites are easy to put together and don’t require code or for you to be a graphic designer. Just some simple web building, your domain name and very soon you will be well on your way. Set up shop, get your merchandise and brand out there! Trust that the world needs what you are selling. If you got a product, you’ve got an audience. Your job is to find who they are and where they are. Perfect time to find them right now!

This list is not infinite and there are a billion things you can do to stay sane in an insane world. But let your down time work for you instead of against you. Use your time wisely. Please tap into those goals and dreams inside of you. Don’t let them die within you. It will be the worse thing you could ever do to yourself. Never live with regret. IF you want it, go get it.

Meet Janae Marie of JMP Media Group!

Meet Janae Marie of JMP Media Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janae Marie.

Janae, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up as an only child until I was around 17 years old. So I didn’t really have access to a lot of other children around me at home. So, I would read all of the time. I’d read, “Goosebumps,” books as a kid. Then I read books by Teri Woods, Omar Tyree, Sister Souljah, Shannon Holmes and several others. I always loved writing! So reading books helped me to escape boredom. I loved how books had the ability to take you to another world.

At age 13, I started writing poems and several of them got published. A few years later, I began writing manuscripts. During my years at Wayne State University, I would often walk to the campus Barnes & Noble bookstore and just stare at the books on the shelf. I told myself that one day I would become a published author and my books would be on those shelves.

I started making that happen at age 25. I published my first book, Flirting with Temptations, a novel about a single successful woman sleeping with married men. I later published Daddy’s Home. A tearful story of a young girl who gets abused, molested and abandoned by her father. Before I hit 30 years of age, I published Double Take, two twin brothers who grow up in the same household take two different paths in life. One in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.

I am always aiming higher to reach my goals. My plan is to attend graduate school and receive my Master’s in Fine Arts in Writing and Producing for Television & Film. My ultimate goal is to be a screenwriter for both TV/Film.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being an Author is not an easy road at all. I am a self-published author. So I am the one doing the marketing and promotion. It is a lot of hustling involved to get my name out there. I learned this the hard way. I don’t have a big name publisher behind me (yet!) to push my work. It’s my job! Whether my books sell or not it is ALL on me.

But I have talked to people at gas stations, hair salons, dollar store employees and just people off of the street. These people have been return customers and they are the ones who see me and yell at me, “Where’s my book? I want another book!” That is a great feeling. Being an author is teaching me to get out of my comfort zone. Because I realized that nothing ever happens there. If you want something you have to go out and get it. It will never come to you!

Also, I’m learning to stop worrying about what others think. To stop worrying who is supporting me versus who is. My dreams are mine and mine alone. Whether they come into fruition is all on me. If I wait on others to be there for me I will never achieve success.

Please tell us about JMP Media Group.
My media company is JMP Media Group. I publish realistic stories that happen in the inner city and could impact everyone.

But I also have a media news site called The Hot Scoop Ent. I plan on revamping it in 2020. It is an urban news site that gives you news on everything from Health, Education, Beauty, Entertainment, World News, Politics and more.

I’m proud of the books that I’ve written and the interviews that I’ve been able to obtain. My publication has been able to interview, Tavis Smiley, Jeff Clanagan (CEO of Codeblack Entertainment Media) several authors, singers and entrepreneurs. What sets us apart is sharing and telling stories that usually don’t get a lot of attention because mainstream media isn’t going to shine light on stories for African Americans.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over, I would have started earlier in my life. I would have believed in myself more. I wouldn’t have worried about what others thought of me. I would have left some people behind who were doing more harm than good. I absolutely would have set the world on fire!

Seriously, confidence speaks volumes and is so important that people don’t even understand. If you don’t believe in YOU. Please don’t expect others to do so. Also, I wouldn’t have cared so much about people rejecting my books. Because it’s not personal. Any time you are in a business, no matter what the field/sector is. Take your emotions and feelings out of it. You have to work hard and grind. It’s about getting your self out there. So, you don’t have time to worry about who doesn’t like your product because it’s a small minute thing versus the twenty or thirty people who will love your product.

Overall, just have confidence and belief in yourself! Don’t be afraid to sell yourself. When you are an Author you are the brand. You are the face of the company. You are always selling yourself. Why should they buy from you? It is YOUR job to convince them to buy. Which is hard but not impossible! Keep grinding!

Chapter 1

Today, was one of the most amazing days of my life! Renewing my vows with my husband Kevin Rose. I again, would be Crystal Rose. Me and my husband had shared five wonderful years. See, we didn’t have the finances all those years ago for a huge elaborate wedding. So, I just couldn’t wait to walk down the aisle towards my King.

Sitting in the dressing room of the church while my bridesmaids all did my hair and makeup. I saw everyone except my maid of honor Trish Yearwood. We’d been friends since childhood. She was my ride or die. We have done everything together! Even college. I’m working as an anchor for a prestigious news channel. While she works as a reporter. Lost in my mental trace, I had a friend tap me on the shoulder.

“How does it look, Crystal?” One of my bridesmaids, Amanda questioned.

“It looks great! You always do great work when I need it.”

“Okay, where is everybody? Where is Trish? Anyway, let’s go. It’s time!”

“Oh, no! I’m not ready!” I squealed.

“Too late!”

I grab my bouquet and my friend places my veil over my face. We walked towards the chapel. Instantly, I felt butterflies in my stomach! Meanwhile, the pastor comes running towards me in a panicked tone.

“Sister Rose, we have a slight problem. We haven’t been able to find Brother Rose, nor Sister Yearwood.”

“Oh no!” I thought.

I stormed into the chapel and searched around everywhere for my husband. I know he would show up. We planned this since last year. I looked all around and still couldn’t find neither one of them. I didn’t know what was going on.

My friends approached me saying they finally found the both of them. I followed my bridesmaids and walked towards where they were leading me. Thinking I would be letting my husband know that it is time to get the ceremony started. But instead, I get the biggest shock of my life!

The doors fly open of this storage closet, where I was told they were. My so-called husband was screwing my best friend against the wall of a freaking church in a closet! Everyone was appalled at this sight! I was truly disgusted!

They were really going at it until I walked up towards them. All of his groomsmen and my bridesmaids were standing around. They gather themselves together and my husband just stares right at me.

I walked right up to him and slapped the piss out of him! I’m in a church so I refuse to curse right now. Trish walks right out of the room and begins down the hall. I walk up towards her and grab her arm.

“How the heck could you do this to me? This is my husband! What is wrong with you, Trish?”

“What do you mean, “what”? You just screwed my husband! My husband. You can’t get your own man!”

“Your man?! You’re so silly. You mean, “our” man. You remember when I told you I was pregnant. Guess, who’s the father!” She said rubbing her small belly.

“I’ve been trying to ruin your’ life since college. It’s just now that you’re finally finding catching on.” She taunted.

I knew I was in the house of the Lord, but I just couldn’t take it anymore.

“You bitch!” I jumped on Trish and we began fighting! Yes, we were scrapping inside of a church. Everyone rushed us to break us up. I remember, Amanda pulling me off of Trish and holding me back. Full of adrenaline, I wanted to kick her ass as well as my husband’s ass too!

I saw him standing against the wall and he looked so pathetic! I pulled my ring off of my finger and threw it at him.

“It’s over! Give me a divorce. Go be with that hoe!” I yelled as me and my bridesmaids walked out of the chapel.

I knew Trish was a snake, but I tried to deny it. I tried to overlook it for so many years. The things she did with other friends and even her sister. I just never thought she’d be the one to stab me in the back. It was plain to see that this bitch had it out for me. Sadly, enough this wasn’t even the worse thing she had done to me.

black frenemiesChapter 2

Best Friends

I remember our days at Spelman just like it were yesterday. Me, Amanda and Trish were at the hottest party of the semester. There were cuties all over from the football, basketball team and let’s not forget the Qs and the Kappa’s. Yes! That is how I first met Kevin. Little did I know he’d be a snake too. But later on, that.

Trish was the life of the party. Guys everywhere would flock to her. I was more reserved and laid back. But I didn’t let that stop me from having a good time. We were all scoping the room for a guy. I spotted a guy from the basketball team coming over to where I was standing.

“Hello, Ms. Lady, how are you?” The b-ball player questioned with the prettiest eyes I’d ever seen. Of course, this was way before I had met Kevin.

“I’m great. Thanks for asking.” I answered shyly.

“I’m Rahul. What’s your name beautiful?” He asked, showing the most perfect smile I’d ever seen. This guy was very easy on the eyes. Tall caramel complexion. Brown eyes…I was heaven.

As we engaged in conversation, here comes Trish with her flamboyant self!

“Hey, girl!” She shouted, obviously drunk.

“Hey, Rahul, this is my friend and roommate Trish.”

“Nice to meet you, uh…Trish.”

I’d been drinking so much punch, my bladder was about to explode. I excused myself and ran straight to the bathroom. Meanwhile, as I later walked back towards the party. I noticed no familiar faces. I searched top to bottom for Trish and Rahul. Couldn’t find them anywhere. So, I decided to find Amanda. She’d been dancing with a guy from her Chemistry class. I whispered to her that I couldn’t find Trish. I didn’t care about finding Rahul anymore because I knew jocks were like big time sluts around campus anyway. But it was getting late and I had an 8am class. The time was a quarter past 1. People were slowly beginning to dissipate. Amanda and I were still left at the party. We couldn’t leave because Trish drove. She was our fucking ride! So, where the hell was our damn roommate!

“Try calling her cell phone!” Amanda said in a panicked tone.

“I’ll try.” I called her phone, but it went straight to voicemail.

“Um, Amanda…. she’s not answering.”

“What the hell do you mean, she’s not answering? You mean she just left us here?”

“Looks like!”

“That bitch! I can’t believe she left us on the other side of town and didn’t even tell us. How could she do this? How are we going to get back to school?”

“How much money do you have? We’re going to have to get an Uber or something.” Amanda was furious! I don’t blame her. She left us, she left us at a party all by ourselves. She left without telling us. See, I don’t know why I didn’t realize how self-centered she really was. Guess, I was blind.

Me and Amanda pulled together our cash and ordered an Uber to get back on campus.

We made it back in twenty minutes and thankful to be safe. As we reached our dorm room, /Amanda planned on cursing Trish out for leaving us. But once we stepped in, I saw Rahul coming out of her room buckling his belt and Trish standing there in some lingerie.

I stood there in total disbelief. She’d left us for a dude! I didn’t know whether to be pissed at this bitch for leaving us at the party or because she slept with the guy I was trying to get with. I’d tried so hard to hold on to our friendship over the years.  That I look back and wonder why I’d ever befriended her in the first place.

“Oh, hey what’s up Crystal?” Rahul said before he left our room.

“How could you leave us at the party? We were there all alone with no ride to get home. We had to pay for an Uber! You need to fork up the cash and pay us back.” Amanda yelled.

“So, what’s the big deal? Y’all got home didn’t y’all. No one said I had to take y’all home. Just because we arrive together. Doesn’t mean we gotta leave together.” Trish spat out with attitude.

“You little bitch! Anything could have happened to us. You don’t even care about your roommates.”

“Look, Amanda you need to chill.”

“NO, you need to chill before, I whip your ass.”

“How could you sleep Rahul? You saw me talking to him?” I interjected.

“So, it wasn’t like that was your man or something. All guys are up for grabs. Not my fault he liked me better. I won, you lost. Now if you don’t mind. It’s late. I’m about to get some sleep.” She walked away and closed her door.  Amanda and I just looked at each other and disbelief. Shook our heads and turned in for the night.

Chapter 3

The next week after all the dust has settled. We were sitting at the table eating breakfast with a few other students. Once again, Trish opened a can of worms. I tried to ignore her and take in the fresh smell of pancakes and bacon that saturated the air of the dormitory cafeteria.

“You know I’m really surprised on how good the food actually is. I was so determined to not eat the food because I just knew dorm food would taste like prison food!” Amanda joked as she shoved a spoonful of grits into her mouth.

“Well, um, if you ask me. I think you need to watch what you eat.” Trish stated.

Amanda stops eating and looks dead at Trish.

“Excuse me! What did you just say?’

“Look, all I’m saying is just watch the calories. You’re already a little on the plus side. Don’t want you to blow up! Guys like thick chicks not fat chicks. I’m just saying.”

All I could do is shake my head. I tried to ignore the obvious ignorant statement and continue to eat my hash browns.

“Who the hell do you think you are, calling me fat?”

“No, see you’re taking it the wrong way. I wasn’t calling you—”

“You’re damn right. First of all, my weight is not a problem for the guys that I date. I can keep a man unlike you little miss I sleep with everything that walks. Who the hell said you had to be a size 0 to be sexy? If we weren’t in this cafeteria; I swear I’d kick yo—”

“Girls, like you are always making excuses on why you can’t back away from the table. I bet date night for you is the drive through at McDonald’s or Wendy’s. Look all I’m saying is, it won’t hurt you to hit the gym a few times a week. Might actually snag a man after you run a few miles on that treadmill or bike.”

That was it. Amanda totally lost it. She looked at me for a brief moment with a look of complete anger. Her pale skin turned a bright red. Trish just rolled her eyes and continued drinking her cucumber water while Amanda threw her drink on her.

“Roommate or not. I will hurt you. You are a bitch who thinks she’s so much better than everyone. I swear one day, you’re going to get a wake- up call and it’s not going to be pretty.”

Trish threw something back at her and the ladies walked away from the table and began fighting. The usual quiet cafeteria became an echoes of roars. Fortunately, they stopped fighting before the Dorm Monitor came in.

Later that day…

Back in the dorms, I see Amanda coming through the door. Still a little furious about what happened.

“Hey, you cool now?” I asked in concern.

“I can’t take living with this chick. I’m going to kill her. I can’t even get switched to another living space because all of the rooms in the dorms are booked to capacity until next semester. I’m going to be stuck with this chick until the spring semester is over!”

“You were going to move out?”

“Yes, look Crystal, you’re my girl. But this girl has done enough damage to me and you for me to know that she isn’t a good person to be around. You can wait and hang around for hope that she’ll become a better person. But I know better. Come on, she already left us at a party. Hell, what more signs do you need before you realize she’s the common denominator to all our drama?!”

I stopped typing my paper on my MacBook Pro once I saw Trish walking in with shopping bags from Macy’s, Victoria Secrets, Pink and Michael Kors. She begins walking towards her room. Amanda and I look at each other puzzled.

“Um, so you’re not going to say anything?” I say to Trish.

“Say anything about what?” She says taking off her Prada sunglasses.

“About the crap you spewed earlier over breakfast? You didn’t think it was hurtful?”
“I don’t apologize. I meant what I said.”

“Why’d you buy all that stuff? Did you pay for that stuff with your financial aid?” Amanda questioned

“Um, no. This guy bought it for me! I would never spend my own money. Look at me! That’s what I’m saying Amanda. If you looked like me. You’d get sugar daddies. Y’all better take note!”

“You’re such a hoe!” she says.

“Stop hating. Dang, you such a freaking hater. Get it together.”

“No, what you do in your own life is on you? But we’ve been asking you to buy—” I said trying to diffuse the situation.

“You can fuck for some clothes and shit. But you’re hoe ass can’t buy a five-dollar pack of tissue? Damn, we’ve been asking you to buy stuff, but you always use our shit. Your sugar daddy couldn’t buy you personal items. Stop asking me for tampons, when you get your period, if you’re so much of a baddie! Can’t stand this shit. I’m out!”

“You’re such a liar! I’d never ask you for shit. Yes, please go! Stupid ass trick.”

Amanda walks out of the room and Trish just takes her bags in her room. I couldn’t believe how rude and inconsiderate this girl really was towards her. I know some girls just don’t click but dang could this mess get any worse?! I sat on the couch in the living room just frustrated, upset and puzzled as to what to do with these girls.

Chapter 1-Troubled Man

“Dead Man Walking!”

Yeah I certainly was a dead man walking. I was being sent to jail for about 20 to life for a crime I didn’t commit. I was innocent. I swear to God, I was innocent. This was a case of mistaken identity. I’ve had my share of run-ins with the law but murder. I’d never do anything that crazy. Well let me back up and tell you how I get myself into this mess. My name is Karlos Hunter, I’m the twin to my brother and local city councilman Karl Hunter. It’s funny we came from the same home but ended up on two completely different paths. He ended up being a successful politician with a beautiful wife and two kids. Meanwhile, I ended up on the wrong side of the tracks you’d say I stayed in trouble. I dropped out of high school while my brother went on to graduate with honors from Michigan State University.

But this mess right here, I had no parts of doing and now I was going to possibly get sent to prison for life. I would be stripped away from my girl Shantae’ and my baby girl Mariah, whose only five years old. I continued to walk down the corridor as police officers led me to the courtroom to hear the judge’s decision. My heart was beating a mile a minute. I couldn’t believe this was becoming my life. I saw my lawyer sitting next to me. And my girl trying to hold it together while my baby slept on her lap. My lawyer snapped me back into reality as the judge started the case.

“We are here to discuss the case of Karlos G. Hunter vs Amanda McKnight. On a count of voluntary manslaughter. Mr. Hunter you look to serve up to 20 years to life in prison. Is there anything you’d like to say in your defense?” Judge Abernathy asks me.

“Judge, I didn’t kill that girl. I don’t even know who this woman is. I don’t even know who this woman is. I was at home with my fiancé’ and child. I swear…”

“Now Mr. Hunter this isn’t your first time inside my court room. You’ve had plenty of troubles with the law and you stand here trying to tell me you didn’t do this?”

“Your honor, we honestly don’t even have any evidence that Mr. Hunter committed this offense.” My lawyer stated.

“Yes, but we do have history. We all know that there was just a matter of time before Mr. Hunter would move on to much bigger crimes.” The District Attorney added.

“Has the jury finalized their decisions? What is your decision on Hunter vs McKnight.” The judge questioned.

“We the jury have found Mr. Hunter…guilty on 2nd degree murder and voluntary manslaughter of Amanda McKnight.” A female juror said.

I couldn’t believe this shit! I was innocent I didn’t even know a damn Amanda McKnight. Now I had to spend life behind bars for a crime I didn’t event commit? What the hell was going on with our damn justice and legal system?

I turned to look at my lawyer. “I told you. I didn’t do this.”

“I. I know, I’m going to do everything that I can to see you get victory. They’re just going by circumstantial evidence. Don’t worry Mr. Hunter, I’m going to see you get justice.” My lawyer promised as two big burly prison guards started making their way over to me.

“Hey let me have a word with my brother, before you take him away.” My brother Karl said.

“Hey Karl, man. I didn’t do this man! I swear to God this is a case of mistaken identity. I told you I wasn’t going to let you down no more.” I cried.

I promised my brother I’d try to turn my life around and live straight once I became a father.

“You know, Karlos this really breaks my heart to see you like this. In an orange jumpsuit standing in handcuffs. You really disappointed me. Mom, can’t even bring herself to come down here to see you like this?”

“But I told you Karl. I didn’t do this. I’m an innocent man!”

“How many times have I heard this line before? What would Shantae think?” He said to me, before walking away to join his family. All I could do was stand there crying. My brother just wouldn’t believe me. Perhaps, this was my karma for the troubles I’ve caused the community. Before I was taken away, Shantae who also was filled with tears in her eyes, came up to me to give me a tight squeeze.

“I didn’t do this baby! I promise, ‘Tae. I’m innocent. I’d never kill anybody. I’m not that horrible of a human being.”

“I know. I know. I just can’t believe they’d pin this on you. They’re breaking up my family. What am I supposed to tell Mariah?”

“Just be strong. I promise I’ll be out of here soon.” I say to her and give her a kiss on the lips before the guards escort me out of the courthouse.

I was on my way to prison with my heart trembling in my chest. All I could see was my life flashing before my eyes. I think since I’ve told you so much. Let me tell you a little bit about my troubled past.

Daddy’s Home

Chapter 1

Her Silent Cries

Every night I had to hide. Every night I had to hide from the pain I felt inside. I had to escape from the world I was in. The days he, my father,
would come home drunk, yelling and screaming as my mother would leave me alone with him as she rushed off to work as a district attorney or so I thought. She didn’t give a damn about the misery I endured at home. Tonight would be the night that changed my life forever. The day he would come and strip me of my innocence. Every night he’d come into my room, to kiss me good night. But those visits seemed so unnatural. The things he did, the things he wanted me to do.
“I’m going to teach you to be a woman,” he said.
I was only thirteen and was scared shitless of him. I knew what we were doing was wrong, but what was I supposed to do? Yell, kick, and scream? Then he might have killed me, too? I watched him unbutton his pants. I clinched the sheets, feeling a strong, unnerving feeling flow through me. I had never seen a penis before, and I certainly never wanted the first one that I saw be my own father’s.
“Touch it, grab it, and hold on to it,” he ordered me.
Frozen in fear, I did nothing but look at him until his voice grew louder and with more anger. He took my hand and wrapped it around his penis. I let out cries of sorrow, but he just slapped me and told me to “grow up.”
“I’m going to make a woman out of you,” he repeated. “This is what makes you a woman. Now lay back as I put this inside you. You’re going to be a real woman, not like your mother that selfish bitch.”
I begged for my father to stop. I even tried to kick him in the groin, but he punched me in the face and told me again to be a “good girl.” I hated my father for continuously taking my innocence away from me. I was never the same after what he did. I cried, screamed, shouted, and pleaded for him to stop. I could feel every piece of my insides ripping apart as my father shoved his six-inch manhood inside of me. I wanted to kill him and vowed to myself that one day I would. I resented my mother secretly for staying with a man who was so drunk, evil, and crazy. I knew, after tonight, that my life would never be the same again. He kissed me on the forehead as he fastened his pants to get ready to leave.

Chapter 1

My Story

I am posted by my locker waiting on this English class to start I see Melissa Owens the finest chick in the whole Chanson school. She walks past me every day. She is perfection everywhere from her titties, ass and hips but she was a complete bitch. Melissa was the meanest and most stuck up girl I’ve ever meant. All that beauty must of went to her head because she walks around like she the shit. I’d like to fuck the shit out of her then beat the shit of her for messing with my little sister Geneva.
“Hey, Geneva, where did you get that shirt from? I really like it.”
“Thanks.” she says.
“Yeah I liked it when it came out last season. Damn, why are you so poor? I feel so bad for you.
Hell, if it wasn’t for your brother I’d feel sorry for you.” She said laughing as she walked away.
Melissa made her way over to me. I played it cool like I always did. I let the hoes come to me like they always do with their stupid asses.
“Hey Jeff, what’s up? You look good today.”
“What? Today, I look good every day. But why you always bagging on my sister, that shit ain’t cool Melissa.”
“Okay, I’ll stop. But I can’t believe you two are related. You’re so different.”
“What’ sup with you and me?” I said as I pulled her by the waist closer to me and stared deep into her eyes.

“I don’t know, what is up with us? That’s your call. What are you doing after school?”
“You, if you let me?” I said to her. I couldn’t believe how fast girls eat this shit up I mean damn! All I said was what she was doing after school and the bitch was putty in my hands.
“What time you free?”
“I’m free whenever you are Ms. Melissa. Just one thing I have to know; my place or yours.” I whispered into her ear.
“We can do it at my place; I don’t live that far away from here.”
“Alright, just hit me up after your last class.”
“I sure will.”
“Alright, sweetie, I look forward to it.” I said as I gave her a little pat on the behind. She looked back at me and smiled as she walked away to class. My sister walked right up to me and punched me lightly in the chest.
“What, Geneva?”
“How can you mess around with her after the way she treats me?”
“Stop worrying. I put a stop to all that. You won’t have to worry about her messing with you anymore after I’m done with her ass tonight.”
“Jeffrey, please tell me you’re not going to do what I think you are?”
“What’s that?” I laughed.
“You can’t!”
“And pass up on that phat ass. I don’t think so little sis! But trust me; she won’t be the same after being with me.”
“You are a mess! You are talking about…you are going to…”
“Shh! everybody doesn’t need to know, aren’t you late for class sweetheart.”
“You lucky, I’ll see you at home.”
“Alright order something, you can’t cook!”
“Shut up!”
I loved my sister she was the only one that meant something to me. Nobody else mattered to me. I didn’t give a fuck about nothing or no one. I was all about me and I didn’t give a fuck. My pops already scarred me for life so why should I care about the thoughts and feelings of others. I just hate selfish people who mess with mine.
I finally made my lazy ass over to my English class but Mr. Pratt was late so I decided to catch up with a few of my boys who were in the class with me.
“Hey, Jeff man. I heard you were down with Melissa Owens. Man!! Do you know about her?”
“What, that she fine as fuck?”
“Naw man, she out there she’ll do it to just anybody I heard.” Bryant one of my friends said.
“Shit, probably true man. Look at the body on her. You can’t tell me ole’ girl ain’t been around the block but she ain’t gone know what to do once she done with me.”
“I feel you on that one man” My friend Scott said.
My teacher finally made it in talking about how he was running late because he had a flat tire or some shit. I was half listening I was thinking about nailing Melissa’s fine red bone ass. I couldn’t wait to get her alone.
Later that Day, I met Melissa at her locker talking to a couple of friends. I tapped her on the shoulder and I guess she was startled because she looked surprise that I was standing in front of her.
“You ready?”
“Oh yeah, I am ready.”
“You change your mind or something?”
“No, I just thought you were going to back out.”
“No I thought you were going to back out. Hello ma.” I said to her friend Jennifer, a short little brown skin cutie. She wanted to be like Melissa so bad. I could tell she wanted me too. Maybe once I was done with her I bone her friend later.
“Alright I’ll talk to you later Jennifer.”
“Alright, call me later girl!”
Melissa just smiled and turned. She put her arm around my waist and kissed me on the cheek. This girl just didn’t know what she was doing to me I was ready to take her right now. We walked to Melissa’s car as she drove us over to her place.
Melissa had a nice home in a quiet little suburban neighborhood. She was a spoiled kid who got whatever the hell she wanted. And right now, she wanted me and I was about to let her have it.
“So where are your parents at?”
“At work of course, they don’t come home until midnight.”
“Mmhm, I like the sound of that. Look at y’all got plasma screens and entertainment systems. I’m gon have to challenge you on that Xbox!”
“Naw, I’m pretty good at that. I’ll kill you in some Madden.”
“Whatever. But we know this ain’t what we came here for. So why are we stalling?”
“My bedroom is in there.” She said pointing to a closed door.
“Come on.”
She didn’t waste any time heading to the room. We locked the door just in case. I lay out on the bed then she climbed right on top of me.
“Why you want to be with me? It’s so many girls in our school.”
Because you’re easy, damn! Why do girls always kill shit by talking? Just let me nut and get the fuck on shit! I got other things to see and other people to do. Yeah, I meant what I said.
“I like you. You know that. Melissa, you know you’re the prettiest girl in that school. Why you even ask a question like that.” I said as I started to gently caress her thighs and her ass. She leaned into me and began kissing me passionately. She rubbed her hand up and down my chest and suddenly made its way to my dick. This girl was a true freak! I knew what everybody was saying about her was true. I couldn’t believe how forward she was. The way she grabbed hold of me and told me how she wanted me to do her. I knew it would be on.
I thought about asking if this bitch had protection but what the hell. If she doesn’t say shit I won’t say shit either. I was ready to pound her ass so I could go back to my boys and tell them how good it was to be with Melissa Owens. I flipped her over and started feeling in between her legs. Women love that shit, love getting that pussy wet. I took pleasure and hearing the moans come from her as she grabbed on to my shoulders. I began to undress her and was pleased at what I saw. My hands rubbed against her D size chest. I was going to lick this girl out. I finished undressing and was ready to lay the pipe down on this broad. I lay her down, looked deep into her eyes and entered her warm, moist pussy. This shit, never felt so good. What felt even better was listening to her moan my name repeatedly. Only, if she knew what she was about to get from me. Repeatedly, I penetrated her and enjoyed every minute of it, making her come numerous times. After, I released my deathly venom in this trick. She motioned for me to take the subway. I happily obliged. This silly girl just didn’t know what I was going to do to her.
Melissa screamed my name repeatedly as she grabbed hold onto me. The way she yelled and kicked as she squirmed all over the bed was the highlight of all of this. Creating a water fall in between Melissa’s legs made me want to enter her again. Apparently, she was surprised that I would do just about everything with her, because I was tearing that ass up. I bust my fourth nut and called it a night. It was getting late anyway. I had been over there for like five almost six hours. She looked worn out anyway. I kissed her on the cheek and started to put back on my clothes.
“Are you alright, Melissa?”
“Yeah, I just wasn’t expecting all of that!”
“Well, now you can tell all of your friends how good my dick is.”
Because best believe I’m going to tell them how good your pussy was.
“I’ll call you, Mel. Don’t have wet dreams about me!”
“Shut up! Alright goodbye Jeff, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
I walked home from Melissa’s house which wasn’t too much farther from where I stayed. I felt really good after fucking Melissa. I felt bad for her but she probably deserved it. I hope my sister made something to eat because I was starving. We didn’t stay with our parents, we are on our own. My father has life in prison for murdering our mother. Yeah, I got a pretty fucked up life. Luckily, for Geneva she has a different father from me. I was glad she was adopted and wasn’t a bastard like me. She deserved better then the life that I had. I walked into the house and smelt the faint smell of spaghetti and garlic bread.
“Hey, Geneva, what’s up?!”
“What the hell are you doing coming home so damn late, it’s eleven thirty?”
“I told you. I was with Melissa!”
“What, Jeffrey, don’t you ever feel bad about what you do to these girls?”
“No! Why should I feel bad? She wanted to fuck me? Damn, I should’ve made her suck my dick!”
“J! Come on!”
“Why do you care so much about her? She treats you like shit?”
“But she still doesn’t deserve to be given a death sentence.”
“Look, what do you want me to do ‘Neva? There is nothing I can do. What do you want me to do, not have sex?!”
“I didn’t do this to myself, it happened to me. I’m not going to stop something I enjoy just because of some fucked up shit. I like sex. I love sex. So leave me alone. I’m hungry. Where is the food at?”
“It’s in the microwave, I’m going to bed.”
I knew my sister worried about me. But I was 17yrs old going on 18. I was all she had. I had to deal with some horrific shit because my father was out there. How the hell is that my fault? If I could, I’d go to that prison and beat the shit out his ass. I hope I don’t end up in there with him one day. But right now. I enjoyed pussy, and the feeling I got from having sex and had no plans on stopping anytime soon.
The next day at school I was standing outside the building waiting on homeroom to begin when Bryant and Scott approached me wondering how my one-night stand went with Melissa.
“I know you uh, put it down on her right?!” Scott asked.
“Man, what you think? She got exhausted after I bust for the fourth time.” I said as they all began to burst out with laughter.
“Shh, there she is.” I said as Melissa was making her way towards the door with a few of her friends.
“Hey, what’s up Jeffrey?”
“What’s up baby, how are you doing?!”
She continued in the building as we stood outside. Melissa and her friends walked over to the cafeteria to grab some breakfast before class started.
“So, girl, come on tell me how it was! I know that Jeffrey is so good looking!” Jennifer asked she was more like a follower behind Melissa.
“Wait, did I miss something?” Nadia questioned.
“I had sex with Jeffrey last night!”
“What, are you serious?”
“Yes girl! Let me tell you! His penis is so big! He knows exactly what to do with it too! I mean we did it over and over again. He went down on me to girl! I mean we did just about everything last night. I am telling y’all he is good. I got to have him again.”
Geneva happened to be walking past and heard Melissa talking about the rendezvous she had. She walked up to her trying to get her attention.
“Uh, Melissa, I need to tell you something.”
“What the fuck would you need to tell me, loser!” She says, as her friends begin to cackle with laughter.
“Look, I know you don’t like me but I seriously need to tell you something. It’s about my brother.”
“I already know everything there is to know about your fine ass brother. Girl, did I tell you that he lasted for almost six hours! I mean whoooooooooo! I was exhausted!”
“Melissa, I don’t mean to be nosey but did you happen to use a condom with my brother?”
“What, why, I’m on the pill. He ain’tgon get me pregnant? And damn, why the fuck is you still here all up in my business! Get away from me!”
“You know what?! You are a bitch Melissa and you deserve what my brother just gave you!”
“What, bitch? Who the hell you calling a bitch? I’d kick your ass!”
“Hey, Melissa, calm down.” Nadia tried to calm her down.
“I don’t know what the hell her problem is!”
“Hey, I think I should be heading to the library now. I have to print out a paper before I go to class.”
“Alright, goodbye Jennifer, see you later.”
“But don’t you think she might have been trying to tell you something about him. And why the hell didn’t you use protection. I mean I know he is finer then no other but don’t you think that he probably sleeps around? A lot of girls like him Melissa.”
“So, that don’t mean he sleeps with them. I got tested two months ago and I’m clean. Please stop worrying about me. Let’s get ready for class.”
Melissa and Nadia made their way out of the cafeteria but Geneva still wanted to warn Melissa. She pulled her by the arm and whispered in her ear.
“My brother has…”
“What, what is it that you need to tell me about him so damn bad?”
“Look, all I can say is you might want to watch yourself around him. He isn’t who you think he is.”
“All I can say is you need to leave me alone. I am with him and I don’t need you trying to persuade me to leave him. Leave me alone damn!” She said, as she walked out of the cafeteria.
That was what I was talking about. Some people just didn’t have any disregard for anything. Now later, when she finds out what’s really going on she’ll blame her for not warning her. But by then, it’ll be too late. Those six hours I spent pleasuring her sweet body it took only six minutes just to destroy her sweet little body.
